The Best Spots To Drink In The Vivid Views

Vivid Sydney is transforming Sydney with light, music and ideas, making our city a gigantic outdoor art gallery, alive with colourful light design. Right at the heart of the action is The Rocks. Here, you can discover playful, thought-provoking installations along the Vivid Light Walk, witness the spectacular lighting of the Opera House sails, or immerse yourself in invigorating talks at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

You can also find renowned cafes, restaurants and bars, perfect for a feast or a tipple while you have your own Vivid adventure. For spectacular Vivid views, these are some of the best seats in the house.

The Glenmore

It’s a Sydney icon for a reason. The Glenmore‘s famous rooftop has breathtaking 180-degree bird’s-eye views of Sydney Harbour, including the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay and the CBD, making it one of the most perfect spots to witness Vivid. That, plus classic pub food with a twist and $15 espresso martinis – on tap.

The Mercantile Hotel

‘Known by the locals as The Merc, The Mercantile has been voted Australia’s best Irish pub multiple times. Take in the rollicking live music while enjoying a Guinness or two, before digging in to traditional Irish dishes including it’s signature Shamrock Pie.

The Observer

As far as Vivid views, the name’s a bit of a giveaway. The Observer is is one of the best kept secrets in The Rocks, recently re-opened after an awesome renovation. Kids eat free before or after the Vivid Light Walk, and grown-ups can pair their dinner with a $5 tap beer, cider or spritz cocktail before kicking off a Vivid journey.

Sake Restaurant & Bar

Headed up by renowned, award-winning chef Neil Perry, Saké Restaurant & Bar offers the best in modern Japanese flavours. During Vivid, you can treat yourself to an exquisite Sake dining experience for just $55 per person, featuring delicacies like hiramasa kingfish, shumai, grilled shiokoji chicken and tofu cheesecake.

Mrs Jones

A newly created open-air space at The Orient Hotel overlooking a tree-shaded sandstone courtyard, Mrs Jones once belonged to Jane Jones, the licensee of The Orient in 1897. She was famous amongst locals and visiting ships’ crews for running the liveliest pub in the Rocks, and Mrs. Jones follows proudly in her footsteps. Settle in for a refreshing cocktail or a delicious meal made with local produce to kick off your lively Vivid night.

The Push

Serving up delicious food, craft beer and cocktails, The Push is a modern after-dark bar steeped in history and designed with character. Their winter warmer cocktails side perfectly with Vivid views, and every Friday and Saturday their resident Piano Man provides a personalised soundtrack, playing your favourite songs by request on a baby grand piano.

The Doss House

A unique basement bar, at The Doss House you’ll find a collection of over 150 whiskies alongside gins, vodka and fine wines, perfect to pair with with meats and cheeses dished out of a charcuterie counter. But their cocktails are where they really shine, and to help warm up your Vivid night out that extra little bit, they’ve sorted a series of $20 cocktails and hot drinks including old faithfuls like hot chocolate and spiced rum.

Phillip’s Foote

Phillip’s Foote is heritage-listed, boasts award-winning courtyards, and offers a cool dining experience with a difference.
